JOB SUMMARY:
The Executive Director (ED) of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Interdisciplinary MedicalProviders (IMPs) provides senior executive leadership and strategic direction, ensuring integration of practice and operational responsibilities across various medical disciplines. Reporting to the Vice President, Professional Practice & Quality, Clinical Information Officer (VP PP & CIO) and the Vice President of Medicine and Academic Affairs (VPMAA), the ED NP/IMP leads in the development and implementation of clinical practice models, quality care initiatives, and workforce strategies.
The ED brings operations, professional practice, and medical affairs aspects together to successfully lead, support and build strategic direction with the professions within the portfolio.
In this role, the ED champions inter-professional collaboration, fosters a culture of continuous quality improvement, and is an integral member of the Professional Practice Senior Leadership Team. The ED works closely with other Executive Directors within the Professional Practice and Quality portfolio (including Nursing, Allied, and Clinical Informatics and Quality) to drive forward strategic priorities and enhance quality care delivery.
The ED also plays a crucial role on the Executive Medical Academic Leadership Team (EMALT) within the VPMAA portfolio, collaborating with senior medical leaders to set the tone for patient safety and quality care. This position oversees the strategic planning, development, and quality oversight of NPs and IMPs across Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), ensuring alignment with organizational values, clinical standards, and patient-centered care.

Key Accountabilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Lead strategic planning, practice development, and implementation of clinical models that support interdisciplinary care, education, and research.
- Quality Improvement: Promote continuous improvement in patient care quality and safety, aligning with organizational goals and best practices.
- Collaboration: Partner with executives, senior leaders, and external stakeholders to advance initiatives that impact patient care across VCH.
Portfolio Oversight:

- Nurse Practitioners (NPs): Oversee clinical and operational governance, including standards, medical staff rules, education, and quality across VCH.
- Midwifery: Collaborate with the Regional Department Head of Midwives to ensure quality care delivery and scope optimization.
- Dentistry: Support local department heads in strategic direction and leadership, with a focus on quality care through a population health lens.
- Associate Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Future Roles: Provide leadership in governance and practice development for non-Physician medical providers, ensuring integration with Medical Affairs.
- Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master’s or Doctoral/PhD degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner or related Masters Degree or Doctoral/PhD degree.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressively senior clinical leadership experience, with expertise in professional practice, program management, and strategic planning in a large health organization.
Registration: Current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a Nurse Practitioner, or related registration.
Clinical Practice: Maintains active clinical practice and is eligible for active membership on medical staff.
Position and Compensation Structure
- This is a full-time position comprising 0.8 FTE Executive Director responsibilities, compensated at the applicable HEABC Executive Director rate, and 0.2 FTE active clinical practice, compensated at the applicable clinical rate.
- The specific clinical practice arrangement will be determined in collaboration with the successful candidate and the relevant clinical program.

- Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
- Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-deserving groups.
- Deep understanding of provincial legislation, health statutes, and regulations related to patient care and safety.
- Commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety and Truth and Reconciliation initiatives.
- Knowledge of current and emerging healthcare trends impacting the portfolio.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate, build consensus, and collaborate effectively.
- Proven ability to manage fiscal resources responsibly, aligning with organizational goals.
- Expertise in change management, with a focus on continuous improvement in service delivery and patient care standards.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
