Job Title:         Human Resources Intern  Revision #:      OBHRINTERN-02032025Department:    Human Resources   Role Summary:  The Human Resources Intern assists with and facilitates Human Resources (HR) processes at all business locations. The person in this role is responsible for the day-to-day functions of HR, such as the administration of employee health services and benefits, filing HR documents, and aiding with employment offer letters. Responsibilities: 
  • Manage HR records by keeping accurate, up-to-date employee files, including contracts, performance reviews, and benefits forms 
  • Schedule meetings and HR events.
  • Support the administration of benefits, including setting up new hires with benefits, and making administrative changes.
  • Support the administration of the group retirement savings plan (GRSP) in conjunction with the provider.
  • Liaise with external parties to support employees (i.e., providers of benefits, GRSP, and health services).
  • Build and maintain a calendar of HR events related to health and wellness.
  • Assist with ad-hoc HR projects.
  • Maintain database of candidate records, including active and passive prospects, hired and fired employees, and other designations
  • Complete the 30 and 90 day check-in with new hires
  • Provide recruitment support 
       Qualifications: 
      • Studying towards a degree in Human Resources or related field
      • Basic understanding of labour laws
      • Highly computer literate with respect to email, Microsoft Office tools, and related business and communication tools.
       Desired Characteristics:
      • Excellent communication skills, including writing, speaking, and listening, to facilitate the effective sharing of information while paying careful attention to employees’ concerns and questions.  
      • Critical thinking capabilities that enable solving problems, making decisions, resolving employee concerns and inquiries, and escalating issues when needed.  
      • Able to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
      • Attention to detail and good organizational skills to ensure compliance with labour standards, maintain records regarding employee concerns, perform background checks, and maintain employee files. 
      • Demonstrates care and consideration when composing correspondence.
      • Good interpersonal skills that enable positive interactions with new employees and engagement with people from various backgrounds and experiences. 
        This position may be fully or partially funded by Biotalent Canada.
