Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual Occupational Therapy assessment and individual and group treatment to referred adult clients.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary treatment planning and risk assessment for forensic outpatients
- In collaboration with the team, monitor outpatients in the community as per their Ontario Review Board disposition orders
- Participate in clinical and program meetings as required.
- Liaise with appropriate community agencies as required.
- Provide supervision to Occupational Therapy Assistants and Occupational Therapy students as required.
- Partner with clients in the development of their recovery goals.
- Work with clients and care team in the identification of resources in community to promote transition from hospital services and reintegration to community.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, to the program and to the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario standards of practice.
- Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
- Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment and Discrimination-Free Workplace Policy.
Qualifications
- Master of Science program in Occupational Therapy (MSc (OT)) or equivalent according to College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario standards.
- Minimum of 3 years Occupational Therapy experience, preferably with adults with severe mental illness.
- Member of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario mandatory.
- Experience working with adult psychiatric population is preferred.
- Experience working with clients in the community preferred.
- Experience in motivational interviewing, CBT and DBT is an asset
- Membership in CAOT and OSOT preferred.
- Experience with developing and leading psycho-educational and therapeutic groups is essential.
- Experience with recovery based programs for the seriously mentally ill is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, organizational ability, critical thinking and goal setting skills.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Knowledge of applicable legislated acts (i.e. MHA, The Health Care Consent Act).
- Ability to work independently.
- Sound clinical judgment.
- Experience in community consultation is an asset.
- Ability to work in a team; establish and maintain good working relations.
- Enter workload measurement data according to hospital policies.
Language Requirements
- English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading & writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered a strong asset
