JOB SUMMARY:Vancouver Coastal Heath’s Respectful Workplace policy is supported by the People Operations and Employee Wellness teams in collaboration with VCH operations managers and directors, and provides support options for employees who experience or witness disrespectful behavior and or conduct, bullying, harassment, dissimilatory harassment, and conflict, within the workplace. At its foundation, and in keeping with Worksafe BC legislation, is the right to work in an environment that is free from disrespectful behaviour, bullying and harassment. Reporting to the Manager Respectful Workplace, the Respectful Workplace Advisor is responsible for conducting a high volume of workplace investigations and providing Respectful Workplace Education to leaders, employees and medical staff across VCH. The Respectful Workplace Advisor is responsible for fact finding and conducting respectful workplace investigations in a manner that is respectful, fair, impartial, and consistent in a manner that ensures compliance with legislative requirements and various collective agreements. The Respectful workplace Advisor applies a consistent, fair and unbiased approach when dealing with complaints of workplace incivility, bullying and harassment, discrimination and discriminatory harassment, and all other complaints of workplace misconduct that fall under VCH’s Respectful Workplace and Human Rights Policy. This work is framed within VCH’s commitments to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health.QUALIFICATIONS:Degree in a relevant discipline such as Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or other relevant social science discipline, supplemented with 3 years’ recent, related experience in conflict investigation and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, preferably in a health care or other complex unionized setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Completion of an accredited Mediation Skills, Conflict Coaching and/or Workplace Conflict course(s) as well as relevant certifications care considered assets to the role. Valid BC Driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.ROLE SPECIFIC EXPERTISE:• A proficiency and passion for conducting respectful workplace investigations and experience ensuring a fair process for all complainants and respondents • Experience conducting workplace investigations related to racism, discrimination and other complaints that fall under the BC Human Rights Code • Demonstrated ability in investigative procedures, interviewing, report writing, and applying sound judgment, best practices, policy and legislation to make informed decisions• Ability to manage a large caseload of investigations • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization and in a complex multi-union environment• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.• Demonstrated strong and respectful communication skills, both verbal and written• Ability to identify opportunities to coach and educate managers and employees on respectful workplace concepts, behavioural expectations and impact to staff & culture• Excellent conflict resolution, facilitation and/or mediation skills • Ability to present Respectful Workplace Education both online and in person • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues and lived experienced of people from equity-seeking groups• Proficient using a variety of databases, including PeopleSoft, MS Office, Word and Excel, and other in-house databases• Extensive understanding, knowledge and interpretation of collective agreements and applicable legislation• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.SHARED VALUES:You care for everyone:• You are compassionate, empathetic, and sensitive to the needs of others.• You are respectful, treating people as equals, and valuing others’ perspectives and differences.• You are appreciative of others’ efforts and give them praise when it’s due.You are always learning:• You are open minded, always receptive to different perspectives and ways of doing things.• You are curious and ask questions to find a deeper understanding.• You share your expertise and mentor others by sharing your knowledge and experience.You strive for better results:• You are accountable, and take responsibility for what you say, what you do, and who you engage in achieving better results.• You are a solution finder, empowered to solve the challenges we face in healthcare.• You take ownership for growth and development and personal development, always seek feedback and opportunities to improve how we do things.
